When It Snow’s In New York…Be Prepared

It was another snow day here in New York City, and I don’t know if you noticed but the day was a perfect for heading to New York public parks for some fun in the snow. Minus the transit troubles, the city was beautiful. Just check out my friend Gillian’s view outside her balcony on East 89th Street, a tree line shot right to Central Park:

If you are a new comer to New York, or you are planning to buy a new condo in the area, here are some tips …

Hot Air

Central Park, December 2010

Given the wintry mixes with which our city has been battered in recent weeks, it seems a good time to discuss heat, both literal and figurative.
First: Is there any area of New York that is not at least occasionally referred to as one of “New York’s hottest neighborhoods?” Google that phrase, and among copious results you’ll be told that the city’s hottest include Alphabet City, Astoria, Allerton, Arden Heights, and Annadale — and that’s just the As. Some neighborhoods, like Greenwich Village, Soho, and Tribeca, have been referred to as “one …

Twenty-Something’s Adaptation To New York Prices

The New York Times recently reported that twenty-somethings moving to New York for the first few years are doing everything they can do to survive in this expensive city during this horrible economic slump. Being a twenty-something myself, going on my fourth year in the big apple, I understand all these baby New Yorker woes.
Living in a city where you have to start out residing in a windowless box, sleeping on a twin bed with your feet hanging off one end is not the ideal situation for any young adult …

Battery Park City Gets a Boost

Have you heard the rumor that Shake Shack is expanding all over the city? You know you want one of those hand-spun shakes teamed with a shackburger, and it’s totally worth the wait. According to the New York Times, Goldman Sachs (a new resident of the neighborhood) wants to help revamp the Battery Park City neighborhood. If you think about it, this neighborhood is a great location right next to Tribeca and the soon to be finished tower at 1 World Trade Center. Goldman Sachs’ first step in the process …

This is rather exciting for the Financial District and the neighborhoods surrounding, like Tribeca and Battery Park City. The New York Times reports how the introduction of Condé Nast to Times Square brought a flock of other businesses and tourists to …

In honor of Earth Day, we’re bringing you five condominiums here in NYC that are LEED certified. But before we do, one last time for the cheap seats, a bit of education on what exactly LEED certification means:

Trouble at Battery Park’s Riverhouse

Geez – Battery Park’s eco-luxury building Riverhouse is lucky it has already won the hearts of celebrities like Tyra Banks and Leonardo DiCaprio (both of whom have reportedly signed contracts for residences at the property), because it seems financially, things are quite cloudy down there. Curbed is reporting that Sheldrake and Lehman Brothers, who were partnered on the property, have partially parted ways. Apparently, Lehman removed Sheldrake as the managing member of the property because they suspected that Sheldrake had been engaging in fraud. Sounds quite fishy, doesn’t it? Lehman …

Riverhouse Battery Park’s Park Still Not Open!

We’ve got a bit of a shortage of parks here in Manhattan. Sure, we  have Central Park, and some smaller ones – but let’s face it, New York isn’t called the concrete jungle for nothing. Many of us are absolutely dying for some greenery, and not all of us can lay down roots at Gwathemy Siegel’s Soho Mews. Some of us prefer The Riverhouse in Battery Park – which promised its residents a neighboring lush oasis.
NEWSFLASH: Said oasis has yet to open. It’s got a name “Teardrop Park South” (how …
