Hot Air

Central Park, December 2010

Given the wintry mixes with which our city has been battered in recent weeks, it seems a good time to discuss heat, both literal and figurative.
First: Is there any area of New York that is not at least occasionally referred to as one of “New York’s hottest neighborhoods?” Google that phrase, and among copious results you’ll be told that the city’s hottest include Alphabet City, Astoria, Allerton, Arden Heights, and Annadale — and that’s just the As. Some neighborhoods, like Greenwich Village, Soho, and Tribeca, have been referred to as “one …

The Charm Of Soho: Why Don’t You Buy Into The Charm?

If I ever had the opportunity of living in New York City, I would live in the charming, architecturally stunning neighborhood of Soho. Characteristically there is the large windows, colorful buildings, and architectural elements that makes the neighborhood unique from all others.
There are shops, restaurants, easy transportation, and entertainment galore. This is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the world.

I would checked out the neighborhood for some availability and here are some units I found on StreetEasy:
- 242 Lafayette Street, Apartment 3N, is available for $1.299 million. It’s a …

Twenty-Something’s Adaptation To New York Prices

The New York Times recently reported that twenty-somethings moving to New York for the first few years are doing everything they can do to survive in this expensive city during this horrible economic slump. Being a twenty-something myself, going on my fourth year in the big apple, I understand all these baby New Yorker woes.
Living in a city where you have to start out residing in a windowless box, sleeping on a twin bed with your feet hanging off one end is not the ideal situation for any young adult …

Rumor Has It Justin Timberlake Is Moving To Soho

Curbed NY has recently reported that Justin Timberlake is moving his pad uptown from Tribeca to West Broadway in Soho. He just might be inhabiting the beautiful Soho Mews. It just so happens that last month I payed a street visit to Soho Mews and created my own little photo essay that I blogged about. Just like I said back in September, the building is in a beautiful part of the city. Soho is thriving with people, beautiful architecture, awesome stores and hip restaurants. I also loved how the building …

The Modern New York City Town House Part III

The last leg on my modern New York City town house tour is the luxurious Soho Mews. The modern town house/condo building in just off the hustle and bustle of Canal Street. The neighborhood has the wonderful charm of the cobble stone streets and is right next to the glorious shopping on Broadway. There seems to be every type of store springing up in Soho these day’s from Top Shop, Uniqlo and Crate and Barrel to Channel, Prada and Gucci. Another perk is being across the street from the Soho …

Feature Building Of The Week: 40 Bond Street

In my opinion 40 Bond Street is one of the coolest designed buildings I have seen in New York. With it’s aluminum gate and wall of coke bottle green glass that gets everyone’s attention as they walk on by. Everyone has their own opinions on the design of the facade, readers what do you think?
This residential marvel is one of Ian Schrager’s projects. He was able to hire the Pritzker Prize winning Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron to come up with their first residential building in America. I would …

The Long Lost Manhattan Neighborhood: Hudson Square

Have you ever heard of the area in New York called Hudson Square? It seems weird that this small Manhattan neighborhood goes unnoticed after being surrounded by popular neighborhoods like the West Village, Soho, and Tribeca. I like to call it the long lost Manhattan Neighborhood.
According to NYC.com, Hudson Square owes it’s development to the Trinity Church that was established as early as 1697. Queen Anne of England gave this land to the church, which eventually developed into Hudson Square over the years. A couple centuries later to 2010, the …

Trump Soho Closings Begin; Percent Sold in Question

While the first condominium apartments closed last month at Trump Soho, there continues to be controversy surrounding the actual percentage sold. We profiled the grand opening back in April.
A recent article in the New York Times quotes Shaun Osher, the founder and chief executive of the Core Marketing Group and one time marketing company of the Trump Soho project, as stating that when they left the project in December 2008, they were 50 percent in contract. However, another recent article in The Real Deal shows that documents filed at the state attorney general’s office show that less than …
