Last week, we spent an afternoon in the Financial District, touring both 20 Pine: The Collection and The Compass Lofts. You may have already read our thoughts on The Compass Lofts, but you’ve yet to hear what we thought about 20 Pine. Marc Palermo, of SHVO Marketing (the exclusive marketing team of 20 Pine), was kind enough to take us around and show us the goods. 20 Pine The Collection is a luxury high rise building housed in what used to be the home of the Chase Manhattan bank. This means it comes complete with a giant safe in the bottom of the building (more on that later). The interiors at 20 Pine come courtesy of Armani/casa, and the amenities seamlessly blend your living space with your life.
Let’s back up and talk history – because 20 Pine comes with loads of it. In the 1920s, 20 Pine was hailed as one of New York City’s most splendid examples of neo-classical architecture; today, it’s a landmark building that’s been refitted to contain the most luxurious condominiums around. 20 Pine is constructed of Indiana limestone; five stories below the ground previously held the bank’s safe deposit and currency departments as well as enormous faults. Today, these floors house 20 Pine’s amenity spaces, which include a golf simulation range, a billiards room, a full fitness center, indoor pool, spa and Turkish style bath, among other things. In 2007, the building was converted into 409 residential condominiums, and 20 Pine The Collection was born.
Upon entering 20 Pine The Collection, you’re greeted by a gorgeous glass facade and a custom designed chandelier. The soothing and modern color scheme of ebony macassar woods, bronzes and glass lend an immediate air of luxury to the lobby area of the building, which features an expansive sitting area and sky high, 33 foot ceilings. Adjacent to the lobby is the library lounge, which offers an area to read or relax (this is, mind you, in addition to all the amenity space located subcellar).
Residences on floors 5-24 are sun-drenched and oversized; the light dapples the maple-stained hardwood floors from every angle. The homes feature 10 1/2 foot high beamed ceilings, and custom kitchens that masquerade as cabinetry. Not a chef? No one will ever know that behind those cabinets lie a refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and washer/dryer. The custom designed kitchens by Armani/casa have been created to lend themselves to a world in which cooking, entertaining and good looks meet in the middle. Only the countertop space, sink and stove top are visible; the rest has been inconspicuously hidden behind closed wooden doors. Those who do dabble in the culinary arts often install large islands in their kitchens; those who don’t can easily pretend they don’t have any appliances at all. The ability to conceal the kitchen allows for seamless integration into the living room space.
All units feature soaking tubs, a little luxury in and of itself. The Armani/casa designed bathrooms offer a muted palate and clean lines. Galaxy Schist stone can be found on the floors; showers are open stall style and offer recessed square rain shower heads. Both the tubs and the vanities are finished in Brazilian wood.
Downstairs in the amenity spaces, you’ll find a pool pavilion, the golf simulator, a Turkish bath, a juice bar, a sauna, massage and treatment rooms, a fitness center complete with yoga studio, weight and cardio machines, a club lounge, a billiards room and a reception area to outfit your every need. The pool is housed in what was once one of the building’s original bank vaults; it now features impressive walls and gorgeously tall pillars, as well as classic chaise lounges and side tables for relaxing. Professional masseurs and technicians provide a range of services for residents – in essence, once can pamper every inch of his/herself without ever leaving 20 Pine.
On the 25th floor, you’ll find the terrace lounge, which offers a fairly outstanding skyline, as well as a lighted reflecting pool and chaise lounges that can be moved under cabana-like coverings if the heat gets to be too much. On our visit, we spotted only one man sunning himself – we assume he didn’t have to work, and found ourselves wishing we too could don a bathing suit and get some sun instead of heading back to work.
In addition to all the amenities mentioned above (which are available to all residents), there’s also the concierge living side of things at 20 Pine. Floors 25-penthouse are concierge residences, offering the amenities of a world class hotel and the comfort and sophistication of your own private home. Concierge residents enjoy a continental breakfast served Monday-Friday; concierge service Quintessentially caters to your every need – whether it be arranging your dinner party or delivering a picnic basket to Central Park.
In short, 20 Pine The Collection offers just about anything one could want. The building is luxury at its best, from the top notch interiors to the amazing amenities. The ability to be able to spend your day sunning on the rooftop, then taking a swim and a spa treatment, and finishing off with your privately catered dinner party and a tee off in the golf simulation room…it sounds like a dream to us. 20 Pine is luxury at its best, even if we did find the hallways a bit dark. Mr. Armani, perhaps you could think about switching it up?
Units at 20 Pine The Collection range from $685,000 for a 675 square foot studio to $3.5 million for a penthouse concierge residence. In between, studios and lofts can be purchased for a range of $815k to $1, 055 million (loft space with terrace). One bedrooms range from $950k to $1.9 million (1 bedroom with 625 s.f. terrace). Two bedrooms start at $1.8 million and go up to $2.84 million (concierge residence). Three bedrooms range from $2.4 million to $2.5 million.
