The area located west of 10th Avenue, between West 33rd and West 45th street is what The New York Times is coining the “Far West Side.” It was once an area for rail yards and shady deals, but now with the growth of residential towers developing in the area a new Manhattan neighborhood is sprouting.
The buildings in the area have the benefit of spectacular views of classic New York symbols like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and the George Washington Bridge. Many of the towers offer high luxury and lots of amenities, which seems to attract the young crowd who are working in the Midtown area. Do all these amenities make it worthwhile to endure the trek to the neighborhood that is lacking in public transportation. The only relief that could be seen in the future is the extension of the 7 train, which is to be completed in 2013.
If you work in any of the surrounding neighborhoods, let’s check out one of the buildings in the area:
Atelier, 635 west 42nd Street
This building looks beautiful and luxurious. It also seems to have a large variety of apartments available. According to StreetEasy there is a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom condo selling for $850,000. It is located on the 21st floor and has views of both the city and the river. You can’t beat that.
