Out and About in NYC… 40 Bond Street

What a day!  80 degrees and sunny in April in NYC… If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I can’t swear I’d believe it.  I obviously had to be outside, and through my wandering, I arrived at 40 Bond, an incredible piece of architecture hanging out down in Soho, east of Lafayette.

Designed by Ian Schrager’s, the building is clad in a glass curtain wall with a cast aluminum gate; the 27 loft style condos are on 11 floors.  While I didn’t get to go inside, sources tell me that the apartments have oak flooring, 11’0” ceilings, and many terraces and gardens with amenities including 24 hour concierge service.

The neighborhood was crowded with New Yorkers (and some tourists, I suppose) taking advantage of the summery sunshine.  Lots of bikes, windows open, and my personal favorite: a sign on the street announcing that the restaurant “The Smile” was open.  Maybe the sun warmed my heart, maybe I was just too dehydrated to be thinking straight, but I couldn’t help smiling at that one.  It was one of those days where you remember why you wanted to live in NY in the first place (and almost makes the memory of those rainy-slushy winter days float away).
