Selling New York Finally Makes a Deal

It’s our third week into the fabulosity that is HGTV’s new show, Selling New York, and finally, we encountered someone worth of the word fabulosity: New York fashion designer Indashio. On last night’s show, Indashio, feathered cap on head and wishlist in hand, was determined to find a perfect new live/work space. His budget was $15,000 a month for a rental apartment, and he was hoping to find something bigger and better than his current 2 bedroom/2 bathroom abode. On Indashio’s wishlist? A high floor. A room for his studio. Huge windows. A private terrace. A doorman, obviously. As if the celebs would go anywhere without a doorman!

Samantha Kleier showed Indashio a fifth-floor walkup in Nolita, “discounted” because of the fact that it required walking instead of using an elevator. The discounted price of this gem? $7,500 a month, exactly half of Indashio’s budget. Of course, as any good designer knows, celebrity clients wouldn’t dare climb stairs to reach his atelier.  Said Indashio, “I could never ask one of my celebrity clients to climb all those stairs. Ever. They wouldn’t do it.” Said like a true designer. God forbid anyone have to climb stairs. The Nolita place was out.

Meanwhile, the folks over at CORE were scrambling to stage a residence at Modern23 (sound familiar? That’s because you can get your own home at Modern23 via CondoDomain and earn cash back when you sign!). CORE’s Kirk Rundhaug was in charge of staging the empty slate of a giant penthouse in Modern23, and unfortunately, he had only a few days to do it. Now that’s the New York we know and love. Kirk had some really insightful things to say about Chelsea, while a montage of neighborhood landmarks played onscreen for those of us at home, “This is Chelsea. This is it. This is what’s going on in Manhattan right now. People who lived uptown, they want to move downtown. So it needs to be hip, and cool, and chic.”

If it’s so hip, and cool, and chic, why isn’t Indashio looking there? That’s what we’d like to know! Another day, another dolla, and another deal was closed on Selling New York. The woman who ultimately ended up closing on the penthouse at Modern23 only did so a) after it had been staged, proving that staging is the integral factor of a sale and b) revealed that she’d looked at over 300 properties in the last five years. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to New York!
