Live in the Buildings Shown on HGTV’s Selling New York

Last night, we plopped down on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and settled into our pillows to watch HGTV’s premiere episode of “Selling New York,” which is sure to become our new favorite show. Amidst hilarious lines like, “You’d be living with legends and royalty!” (a play on Scarano on the Bowery resident John Legend), we watched as New York real estate brokers attempted to move high priced luxury homes to reticent buyers.

Of course, because this is reality TV, there was many a WTF moment.

Below, a few of our favorites:

1. The shot of Scarano on the Bowery (above) is bleak. It was featured four times on the show.

2. Celebrities named dropped included J.Lo (who cares?), Jude Law (yum!), and “a Polish prince” (again, who cares?).

3. See the screenshot below? For each listing, the show offered up not only the price of the home, but also, the potential commission the broker was set to make. Now, we understand that brokers sell real estate like it’s their job because it is their job, but still – a bit tacky, no? Come on HGTV, we expected better from you!

4. The tidbit that came with this picture: “We actually designed this shower to give you a view of the Empire State Building.” Who can spot it? It’s like Where’s Waldo!

Where's The Empire State Building?

All in all, we’re sold. This show is pure real estate bliss, from the ridiculous “made for TV” moments to the fact that we get to check out homes in fabulous buildings like Scarano on the Bowery and The Lucida. We love it!
