Who doesn’t love a good cupcake? In New York especially, you can find a great cupcake in just about any neighborhood. In the East Village is Butter Lane which offers seemingly strange pairings with scrumptious results. To the west is Sweet Revenge which couples alcohol (beer or wine) and your favorite sweet indulgence. And if you find yourself in Union Square, you can always stop over at Baked by Melissa and grab some bite-sized favorites. But for me, nothing beats a delicious red velvet or banana cupcake from Billy’s Bakery.
Sure every New Yorker knows about places like Crumbs and Magnolia for cupcakes and other delights, but Billy’s Bakery has been making its way to the top for yummy goodies for several years now. They were even featured in the 2009 Uma Thurman movie titled Motherhood. The bakery storefront features a nostalgic style that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into your grandmother’s kitchen (whether you had a grandmother who baked or not). The staff is always ready to offer their suggestions and now with multiple locations; it’s never hard to get a treat at a moment’s notice.

For those who aren’t into the cupcake scene, there are always cookies, pies, and brownies available. And Billy’s Bakery keeps fair trade coffees and teas and locally produced milk on hand to quench your thirst while you indulge in some naughty sweets. Now you can just walk down from your condo to Billy’s Bakery and pick up some dessert for after dinner – my favorite way to end the day.
